Misspelling intentional. Does it ruin a joke to wonder if people will get that you're joking?

First off, who called me from 314-971-2237, from a noisy place? Anyone? Was that just a wrong number? It sounded like a guy, and really familiar, but it could have been Some Guy, and god knows he and I aren't speaking.

It’sa me, Mario!*

I have limited my sense of beauty
to good things, to good people,
and their curves forever disappoint me--
I long for an angle.
I built a road to suit you, sending it high enough in space
that the urge you get to jump off cliff faces
is no frail thing,
giving it no railings,
so that plummeting is sure.
I wanted to build it of color,
because brick dust rubs my hands so raw that even metal’s silk,
but I’ve forgotten your favorite color,
and can’t be so crass as to ask.
I sculpted it of everything,
and crafted it of nothing.
Hosannah, hosannah
I am your Princess.
And when you, thick, squat, blood red and sure,
riding fast and urgent, exclaiming your joy in the Coming, when you
penetrate the castle’s secrets
and defeat the conquering beast,
(oh, green and scaled Reptile Lord
yellow toothed and lurking
jealous of the pleasures
of my nubile mammal skin)
you will find me pink and waiting,
fuzzed lightly as a Peach.
We will climb the tower, and await the rising sun.

Oh yeah, I'm golden.

Wish me luck anyway.

Thank you for the disclaimer at the end, otherwise, I would have thought this was some kind of really off base euphemism for sex

Oh Brit, when isn't it? When. Isn't. It.

That was hot.

No, seriously, I giggled a lot. I might print it out and put it up on my fridge.

You know, I hope my work inspires sexy feelings in you, 'cause god knows Mario 64 does in me, and I'd like that joy to be communicative. Like AIDS, in a way.

Probably more like AIDS than we'll ever know. Are you actually turning that in for a project?

(One of the worlds has angles, by the way. : ))

Oh, oh yes. An application for a pretigious program that scares the shit out of me. That I hope has played a lot of Mario. And doesn't mind casual, joking racism.

This is such a revelation to me!

I would totally make sure you mention that you think poetry is about taking creative and clever leaps and being profoundly casual and shedding light on the world around you. That stuff always works. I once got a full scholarship on the sentence "language is organic", which is nonsense because it's really not. But there you are.

It's the weird one with all the stupid sewer grate things. And you lie. Clearly, you have spent more time with this game than anyone else I've ever known, including the alcoholic Wash U students I used to hang out. You know it intimately.

(Ha.)

Wow. Wow. That hurt.

Oh, stop. I wish I could write poetry at all, much less incredible weird metaphor poetry that totally makes everyone think of sex and video games.

Also, admissions people dig that stuff.
