Fic WIPs

I thought I'd post the outline for my fic Scrivener, in case of interest. Rather confusingly, the first batch of Medium AU Ideas is all for the One Where series, so short ficlets under 2k (if they end up being over that, they spin out into their own post, but they're still generally Minor Works I didn't think deserved the attention/wordcount of a fuller fic--or like, they're perfectly acceptable ideas, they just don't need to be written by me, I'm not bringing anything really unique to them). I hate when ideas I come up with just vanish into pure nothing after I mention them to someone, though, so getting them out in some form is better than not. I really have only patchy records of the stuff I didn't get to or only part wrote in Doctor Who, Blakes 7 and David Copperfield, and it frustrates me immensely. 

'Ready to Post' is all for this series (one comes out a day--they're either labeled by day or just 'Post' if they still need a final edit and schedule: I try to do the longer ones on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, when people have a little more time). 

Beta WIPs are finished, but I need to find a beta, and often to do some serious revision on them. Bed Trick you heard about, Analogue needs some formal re-jigging (Verity gave me a suggestion about re-working the intro which is sound, but time-consuming), Dating Service is 2.5k and I need to think a bit more about Jiang Cheng before getting it edited. They're all slightly back-burnered, because I'm lazy.

Then there's SVSSS and Hikaru No Go fic I'd like to write, and then the proper full and medium length Untamed fic I'd like to get to when the One Where little shit is done. (A few things are filed in the proper Untamed Fic box that are just One Wheres that got too long, so I kicked them over there to clean up so I could focus on completing the genuinely-short pieces rather than fucking about with the icebergs.)

Your titles are fascinating; every time I think I know which one I'm the most curious about, I see another one I'm even more interested in (the Bridget Jones' Baby: A Psychological Horror film might be the most intriguing one though).

And the snippets! All of them sound amazing (I am SO here for the one where Jiang Cheng gets introspective about Wei Wuxian's relationship with the Jiangs) but the one about Madam Yu! Wei Wuxian wondering if her caring sometimes was worse than her not caring at all! Their relationship is *so* fascinating I want to roll around in it forever!

Yeah, the Jiang Cheng one is finished (a too-long One Where), I just need to--watch a JC episode, go over it, find the right beta. I was *really hoping* reading some JC specific fic would help, but what people rec'd was often like 100k odysseys that go off on their own journeys rather than character studies, which was what I needed. And if you're going hard for JC you're often already on your Twin Prides/JC never did anything wrong in his whole life schtick, which is both not my reading and actively not n argument for that take, so much as written for an audience already in that place.

Keeping House is another too-long One Where, it's 3k but it'll get to 4 or 5, I know. It's 'what if Lan post this marriage just believes WWX will be acting Furen now?' And like--why HAVE I never seen that?

I have to organise/compress the notes for BJB:APHF, but basically:

modern!lwj thinks the movie 'Bridget Jones' Baby' is psychological horror. he called Xichen at 5am sharp asking whether Xichen thought wwx wanted to be taken on a zorboing date, or to Burning Man. Xichen says he doesn't know, and panicked Wangji is like WELL WHAT GOOD ARE YOU THEN?! Xichen asked what this was even about, and after lwj painstakingly describing the plot of a film wwx had just taken him to see like it was Midsommar was like '...wangji, was this. was this Bridget Jones' Baby.' 'yes, that was the title. like Rosemary's Baby. just profaning the otherwise excellent concept of the Baby.' Xichen immediately hangs up on him. Wangji immediately calls back like brother this is SERIOUS. my life hangs in the balance--and that balance is zorbing out of control.

someone was like 'but why would this be a horror??' ok, if you haven't seen it: there's a whole part where mr darcy, human rights lawyer who has loved chaotic bridget since getting over himself years ago and has known her since their infancy, was in a RELATIONSHIP with Bridget, who left him bc they weren't compatible enough/he was so busy with serious work/she felt he was stodgy and didn't GET her, and they sleep together at a friend's wedding and he thinks they're a couple again--and she peaces out the next morning like thanks for the hook up but you know we never WORKED-worked. And then she's like I'm pregnant and he has to go into the other room to like cry with joy, and she's like--and it could be yours or this other guy's? and he's like... oh. and the whole pregnancy the other guy is trying to get with bridget and is like well you and she just aren't COMPATIBLE you know...

Oooh, I'm looking forward to the Jiang Cheng one even more now. I get turned off of a lot of Jiang Cheng fic for a lot of the same reasons, so a fic where Jiang Cheng actually, like, thinks about his actions would be very appreciated!

Wei Wuxian taking over Lan furen's duties is an awesome idea! I've seen fics where he takes over teaching duties, and someone I follow on twitter mentioned a scenario where Wei Wuxian started a working relationship with the Lan librarians while he was on his Journey of Self Discovery, but I've never seen anything where Wei Wuxian helps take over sect duties. Although there is one that's currently posting where Wei Wuxian helps Jin Ling run the Jin sect; I'm enjoying it a lot!

Ohhhhhhhh my GOD that *would* be a psychological horror for him. Don't worry Lan Wangji, Wei Wuxian would *definitely* find the human rights lawyer who's defending a russian lesbian punk band hotter! (Plus - I love Bridget Jones dearly, but she keeps thinking that *Daniel Cleaver* is a good idea, so I wouldn't exactly say she has the best judgement)
