MAC WHY??!? An Open Letter
May. 5th, 2011 09:44 amI don't really need a reply, and I know that you must have gotten ample guff about this of late, but I've been an exclusive, loyal, and slightly Stephen-Fry-Style-Creepily-Devoted Mac customer since childhood, and was sort of horrified to read about the working conditions in your Chinese factories:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2011/apr/30/apple-chinese-workers-treated-inhumanely .
I always had this image of Apple as the sort of company that cared about establishing ethical relationships at all steps of the process. I'm really disheartened, and don't know that I can continue relying on a company that's willing to treat people this way for all my computer needs. That's not a pious threat, just a sad statement. The next time I need anything I would normally go to Apple for, I'll be scanning the news to see that this has actively improved, and that you've done some damage control to let us know that this was a mistake (as may occasionally happen even to the most progressive business when dealing with a complex international supply chain), and that it has been corrected/is not representative of your general conduct because ethical standards are important to you.
Thanks,
Erin
