How does one go about preparing for college theater auditions? I've always done it high-school style where you come to the audition for the specific play you want, usually with a few parts in mind, and read off the book for that. From the gist of it I get that they're auditioning for, like, their entire fall lineup in one fell swoop.

I've been told to wear neutral clothing, but other than that, what do I do? Do I prepare a monologue from a specific play or for a part I'm interested in? Do I come completely unprepared? Do I just have one comic and one dramatic at the ready? Do I audition for specific plays or parts I want or just let them decide where to shove me? Is it overly ambitious of me, as a non-theater major with limited experience, to try for anything more than, like, bit character #5 if I really want a specific role, or is that acceptable? All parts are happiness-inducing but some parts are more happiness-inducing than others. Bottom line, I don't want to make an ass of myself, and I want to score. A role. I mean score a role.

I called Molly E trying to get her input on such topics, but she really didn't know, so we talked instead about the Tarts & Vicars party at my house when she comes back in town, and we had a good girly HATE of people, inc. her new roommate in Baltimore who is tres dirty, and assorted nonsense. I like her a lot; I hope to get to know her and Rebecca this year. I love my male friends, but I have missed my Columbia/New England-related girlfriends like WOAH.

Speaking of which, Ameena gave me her life's blood, form of Aladdin Sane, Heathen, all the pre-Ziggy Stardust Bowie, Digital Ash in a Digital Urn (I sort of want to hear the other, folkier album, I'm Wide Awake it's Morning, I think it's called), and a mix that takes 3 CDs. She has warned me that Barry White is hidden somewhere within to be hilarious. He is like a secret treasure, in a way- I find Barry White and am Mardi Gras King. Barry White is in every way the Baby Jeebus. And tiny and plastic. THANK YOU AMEENA!

She also saw Batman Begins with me, omg it was amazing! They used Scarecrow! Those of you who read Sandman (about .5 of you) and those of you who read Batman (...Ruth) will recognize him, in Sandman from the whole Corinthian story arc. Scarecrow was always a favorite villain of mine. Also the aesthetic of the movie was beautifully rendered, so v. classic batman with the 30's nostalgic futurism and the great, sweeping style. Art-Deco fabulous. My only real problem with the filming was the 'grit' which looks, as grit must in a Hollywood production, really bullshit. It was slimy and cloying-- I felt like I was on Batman the ride. Gotham itself was awesome, with the city being a weird Chicago/New York and the slummier areas, the Narrows, being an appropriately cartoonish representation of disreputable London, a la the Shades of Ankh-Morpork in Discworld or the same areas of London in the Moore comic book League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

One other, minor thing: isn't Arkham, in all cannon, further outside the city than that? They had it being IN the slums/the Narrows when I seem to remember it being ten, fifteen miles out of town and in a forested area. 'Sup with that? Am I crazy? Where is Arkham Asylum?

Also, the movie's use of Power Taser (sp? Tazer?). Awesome.

On House of Leaves project:

Danny says Rebecca is a good casting choice for Karen, and I really agree. She's hawt, Karen's hawt. Rebecca's theater kid, she could do it like nobody's business. Seeing as the film is Colin's project it's his opinion that matters, though. I think Rebecca would be interested in doing it, and that frees Me/Molly etc. to do things like work on the set, help with the filming, etc. I don't know a damn thing about making a movie but I know it'll be crew-intensive. Behind the scenes needs me, in manner of the little tree in the Charlie Brown Christmas Special. There's a good film festival in Iowa City in late fall that accepts entries. This may be too soon for our purposes, but then, there's always next year. If we get this made, Colin, Danny, other assorted people involved, do you want to submit? Money. Fame. Sexins. All of the limited-to-Iowa-City variety. Think about it.

And I luff this emoticon.

*edit*: the district of London I mean is Limehouse circa 1890- just remembered the name.
