Eugh. Two IVs later, I feel a little better. Sodium Chloride 0.9% and Lactated R's Injection/H's Solution--can't remember the R and the H. Maybe tomorrow after I sleep I'll feel 100%, but if not I have a prescription for antibiotics (finally!) waiting for me there tomorrow just in case. And if I don't feel well tomorrow I'll ask for Yet More IVs. Serena was great and held my hand through my horrible needle-phobia--the size of a bloody fish hook. For like, a prize sea bass, I swear. And the drips took over an hour and a half all told. The cup of water an hour I'd been drinking weren't being absorbed or something? Anyway, I'm on fluids now, and I ate a bit of soup.

Here's to wellness, the one thing I really want now, on day three of violent illness.

Sounds like more than three days of illness to me.

Hope you get better quickly!

You don't even know how ASS TERRIFIED of needles/IVs I am, too. I practically ripped my roommate's hand off as she pattered to me about my siblings in award-winning calming fashion. Thanks, and me too, deeply.

Salt! The reason you cut back on salt to lower your blood pressure is that salt increases water's absorption into the body. I actually have to have an increased salt intake because my blood pressure tends to be abnormally low. This is why, when I'm going through patches of feeling sick and faint, I make sure to have a big bag of stick pretzels on hand as well as making sure I'm drinking a lot of fluid.

Also D: about the IV. ...though that's how I actually got over my fear of needles: I had to have SO MANY blood samples and IVs while they were trying and failing to figure out what was wrong with me that I just became inured to them.

Feel better! Feel lots better!

See, I sort of wish I were in America, where someone would have TOLD ME THIS about the salt. Because while not actively avoiding salt, I certainly wasn't adding it to my food. It's not an intuitive leap: saltwater kills, why should salt help hydrate you? There is a reason, but not one silly Erin's going to blunder her way towards on the little engine that could of her logic. Also? I wish someone would have /told/ me that an IV would basically make he high all night, because I was wondering if the pounding heart and wild cocaine-y jittering was me dying. This morning I asked? Apparently that's just what the IV does.

Israel is a v. closed information culture: they don't give you info unless you specifically ask absolutely every question, and then it's a one word answer, not like an explanation. When an American would outline a sittuation or help you grasp a general concept b/c clearly you'll run into things regarding that and want to know the general scheme of things? An Israeli will say yes or no. It's the most un-Jewish thing in the entire world: a religion that ritualizes asking questions and explanation giving into its ceremonies reduced to the noncomittal bureacratic non-answer. What in hell.

You poor biscuit, re: the needles. I should always remember you've been through worse, when I feel panicked/about to die. :p And I do feel largely improved, except for the headache and the still high as a kite thing! Thanks!

Heh. I wouldn't say I've had it worse – my illnesses are generally of the deeply annoying and only occasionally acute sort. Generally, I find, even when I feel bad-enough off to have someone call an ambulance on me and have me carted off to hospital, I feel better by the time one of the emergency-room doctors has arrived. That's just how it works with me; half an hour of horrible abdominal pain, and then my body goes "Huh, what? No, I wasn't doing anything..."

And I'm... not actually sure that a saline IV on its own should be making you high. Painkillers or something added to it, yeah, but... ahh. That would be the R and the H, wouldn't it? </is slow>

:/ Information is GOOD. I like having it.
