So my mother bought me this while I was out, and I'm uncertain about it. Yet another case of a designer's non-couture line disappointing, or okay? The baggy cut kind of worries me, and I wanted opinions before I snipped the tags.

The Peter Pan 'let me show you the front pane' pose has made my arms look funky. Sorry about that. And a bonus extra, a blurry bit of my Bizarrely Arian Looking half-brother, Sam, investigating this mysterious process.

Bah. Back to the store with this thing! My mother's taste is always dubious. Oh, the velvet. The sequins. The velvet WITH the sequins. Shoulder pads *whimpers*. I have to stop thinking about it.

Well, it doesn't send me screaming for the hills. From what I can see, I'd classify it as "average to nice." But I agree that the pictures aren't a lot to go on.

I saw that one in Kohls. Every piece of Vera Wang in there looked awful. Whazzup w/ the unfinished hems?

Sleeveless flatters nearly no one, even in black, and from those photos I'd say it doesn't fit you through the bust (baggy armholes - it should lie flat along the sides of your boobs.) And do you really like those pleats around the waist and hips? It's not too tight, but do you want attention drawn there?

MO? Send it back.

idk my mother buys weird shit and I feel guilty about my tendency to summarily return it and I TRY but she has crap taste and thinks she is a fashion goddess and is constantly on me about it and auuuuugh.

Yes. Sleveless is skevil. And tailoring for me is always a line of best fit rather than a match, sadly: relatively narrow waist, April O'Neil T&A. MUCH LESS FUN THAN NINJA TURTLES WOULD HAVE YOU BELIEVE.

No. Screw those death-pleats. You are so right. Back to the store with this thing.

I agree with the earlier comments about the pleats & bagginess. The puffiness/bagginess at the hips seems to make it hang on you a bit awkwardly and lends you an air of shapelessness. If I'm judging the cut of the top right, the line of the sleeve/strap edge at your shoulder lines up with the straighter part of the skirt, which might look boxy. Hard to tell w/out full length pics though.

Oh my god--you're right, it's the early 90s car of dresses, re: boxy w/ awk lines! Why, WHY did I try to humor my mother?! Living far from her has made me forget the nightmares that lurk inside her closet!
