The Plan

Okay, so about June 10th (though this date is semi-flexible)I will fly into the East Coast. After possibly spending the night in NY, I will take the train to Haddon Township, New Jersey, suburb of Philadelphia because my mom nixed the idea of a rental car. Totally nixed.

Once there, either late the tenth/early the eleventh, I will proceed to hang with Wonder Twins Ruth and Jess. This hanging will ensue for one to two days, whereupon I will return to that Large Apple and take another Train to Lake Placid, possibly spending a night in that magical fricking FREEZING town.

This will be followed by fetching Vikki and dragging her to NYC, whereupon the remaining days will be spent gallivanting around with her (until she has to go home) and Sarah, who will endeavor to convince me that she is not, in fact, a JAP and point me towards that nifty Whitney exhibit. There's clothes to buy from H&M, a Whitney exhibit to see, and Cony Island to ride roller coasters on and eat cony dogs at, preferably not simultaneously.

It is my expectation that Harry Potter will be seen at least once, possibly with Ruth, possibly with Sarah/Vikki, possibly with both, just cause we are huge geeks. I wonder if Ruth/Jess have the slightest interest in joining the NYC crowd? Possibly. I am a bumpkin and so think the city is the coolest thing ever, but I'm sure you guys are so over it and would not find Mass Gallivanting all that cool.

To my east coast friends who have know about this trip for some time, I must add another bit of info. I am bringing a friend. This friend is amiable and has no fleas. She is a big nerd. You are big nerds. Mutual love will undoubtedly ensue. If this complicates earlier offers of couch space, I totally understand and can certainly locate a hotel room. If it does not, that is also awesome. I can stay with family in NYC, but would kinda prefer to get my Friend Fix, as I never ever see you guys. I won't assume you have any room available, but if you have a floor to lend, we have sleeping bags to utilize it with, so please inform me by commenting.

I'm really looking forward to seeing you people again! Or in Vikki's case, for the first time! How will I ever recognize you?

I'm the one going to see PoA dressed as Ron, with Leah along my arm posing as Harry. In corsets... wheee!! And leather.

Well, if I had either, but I will find some cool stuff.

Just for the record, I'm not a nerd. In fact, I completely hate nerds. Especially book nerds.

Except, of course, if they like neil gaiman or dress up as death.

Vikki's got red hair and a goofy but entirely charming grin when she laughs.

You and friend (I think I might have spoken online with her once before?) are welcomed to crash at my dad's house in NYC, and if Leah were to want to come down with Vikki from LP, she too would be welcomed. We have a foldout couch and bunkbeds and a floor and loads of extra pillows. I'll also make my dad buy food, and Erin can show off her mad cooking skills; alternatively, there's a really good sushi place across the street, and a good 24-hour diner a few blocks north.

Think of some things in the city you'd like to do. The Whitney exhibit sadly closes on May 30, but there are tons and tons and tons of other cool stuff. I'll start planning, but think of things you'd like to see (you've been here before a few times, right?).

...what the hell are you talking about? You are, like, my personal archetype for book nerd-dome.

coolness, coolness, coolness. Who's Leah? Why have I never been informed as to the existance of Leah?

I'm so totally making at least one trip to Olle's noodles- I have fond memories of it's coolness to shatter with the cold hard non-nostalgic truth.

Yeah, I've been three times, but only once for any duration of time. Remember last Spring break when I was in the city and we couldn't get it together? That was, on my past espech, tres lame.

You have no idea how much the phrase '24-Hour diner' brings me joy. Everything, with the students gone, in this town is shut down by nine. The only place I can bloody eat at at that time of night is McDonalds! It's so sad!

Hmm, there's like a Byzantine collection now at like the Met, isn't there? That sounded uber cool. Since my friend has never been to NY I was going to do the obligatory drive around the city, show her where the Two Towers aren't, which is really bizzare to see after having heard about if on the news for so long, and hit H&M like I wasn't going to see cheap good clothes for another year.

Wait, I'm not...

What else is cool right now?

Remember- LEGEND. We must keep this as a guiding star of our future plans. The entire stchick centers on this key point.

Oh, I too so want to see the Byzantium exhibit at the MET; I always remember it though around noon on Saturday and the line is too long for my level of patience.

I should warn you that Ground Zero is really anti-climactic; at this point, it's a giant concrete bowl with a train station in it.

Ollie's noodles is my favorite restaurant in the world, really. It's the ambience -- that and the uber-polite wait-staff. :)

Yeah, let's check it out during the week so we can have non-crowded drooling over the art time.

I know, the waiters are so nice! Too nice! Like they'll beat them if they fail to be nice! Mmm, crave noodles...

You remember those cool brown, kinda goey thai (i think) noodles at that little place we liked at U of C? What were those called? I crave some and want to make some, but can't recall the name!

Pad thai is I think what you're thinking of. I have a good recipe for them, but it calls for this exotic seaweed sort of thing that I've been having a devil of time finding.

I make pad thai all the time, no seaweed involved. In fact, I've never heard of sea weed being involved. That's like needing radished to make a hamburger- really kinda odd. Maybe we should make it while I'm there, or you could you the Joy of Cooking recipie?

Nah, it was somthing else...
