x_losI'm deciding between the University Akido society and the Ving Tsun Kung Fu dojo on Dubuque. The Akido society is cheap, 60$ a semester, and I don't know what the kung fu costs. The akido is largley avoidance based and defensive, with money charged for belt examinations, as if customary with most martial arts testing, from what I understand. Testing isn't a part of the more agressively styled Ving Tsun, so no fees but no "I have a x belt" rush. If anyone has advice/opinions/alternate options, I welcome them!

On Purim I watched Kung Fu Hustle (amazing) and Layer Cake (quite well done) with Ben and Danny, drinking a LOT of red wine. I hung out with Ari for a little bit and we wished each other happy Purim. Next weekend I'm taking his girlfriend Abigail into Grinnell to see the Beggar's Opera and attend this disco party, and since it's Ari's planning 1) Everything will go wrong and 2) Everything will be amazing and fun anyway. I'm looking for someone willing to see an opera, dance his/her ass off and drive down with Abigail and I for company, since I don't know her all that well. This morning we're watching The Passion of Darkly Noon, which is quite special in its own way. Viggo Mortensen is mute and Brenden Fraiser is fundamentalist.
I plan to buy a variety of coloured paper and make paper cranes and crysamthamums (flowers of different kinds were Sam's idea-- he's probably living with us next year) and hang them on different lengths of string from the ceiling, creating an awesome tapestry of color and shape. And when the fan blows the paper origami around, carefully hung outside the circumference of the blades, it will be liquid and beautiful.
