This is 12.5 sq meters of 100 year old reclaimed English Oak parquet, which we picked up for free last night. There's another 12.5 we're collecting later. All told, this is enough to take care of the whole upstairs area that needs wood (and then some).

You Jenga-stack it thus and let it acclimatise to the room's humidity for two weeks before laying it.

The blocks are 23 cm x 7 cm.

These are variations on the herringbone pattern I'm playing with for the hallway. Two-brick border, one brick border and just skirting:

Ideally, the border will also include a brass inlay strip like these:

These are patterns I'm considering for the bedroom and downstairs living room, respectively (though the downstairs will have to wait until we get more parquet):

Though this large basket design isn't exactly proportional with our blocks, annoyingly. I do really like Chantilly and Versailles, but I don't think I'm going to be able to find materials for either.
The parquet blocks will also outline the tatami, just as soon as I can convince some installers to work with me on that.
