Eight thirty in the morning is too early for thai, right? I just woke up and was like, "You know what I could go for? Cause it's thai!" I'm kind of upset that I didn't get to the Indian district of Chicago over Thanksgiving, speaking of ethnic foodstufs and the sari I really should own by now.

Still not checking my phone messages b/c am too afraid of my mother's lectures. Yeah, I know I'm redonk. Deal. Just call me and I'll see you called and call back, much like you leaving a card at my home during established visiting hours, which reminds me of The Awakening, which reminds me of how much I fucking hate The Awakening.

We wheeled out the Ekyklema o' Phenomenology yesterday for Metamorphosis in class. I. Swear. I am so frigging done with Germans. So far have read two short stories, "Demon Lover," which was excellent, and "Axolotls," which I liked but Colin might well have written while pretending to be a South American man circa the sixties, and two novellas, "Metamorphosis" and "Heart of a Dog," which was Russian lit in translation and I'm super ambivalent about. Next up, screws needing turned, hill houses want haunting, and Lem has some Solaris for us all. There was some discussion about whether the title Die Verwandlung might be better understood in English as The Transformation, but I like Metamorphosis for its implications in the very last line, about the sister stretching her "lithe body," by the way, creepy.

Placebo's Sleeping with Ghosts is all I've been listening to these past few days. It its worst it's forgetable, three or four tracks bleed into an almost time-lapse sensation, like an alien abduction. At its best it's mesmerizing, hypnotic, and you press the play again button three times. The best song on the album comes, surprisingly, on the bonus disc, with a really fresh "Running up that Hill" with Kate Bush.

Probably doing something with my Mollies or Ben tonight, which should be fun and new years-y. Ben got me the DnD players handbook for Christmas, which I think is funny. "I get you a present so you can learn a complicated game which I want to play but need you to learn so I can play. Um... merry christmas?" Still, it is kind of sweet.

Night before last Molly, Ben and I watched White Noise, and aside from a completely random ending, it was really good. I woke up to her brother's radio alarm clock, not tuned to any station, just white noise-ing at me and meebled in terror. Ben's pick, Land of the Dead, was a Romero zombie masterpiece during the course of which every female in the room lost consciousness. Ben's dad finally spoke to me, directly acknowledgeing my existance! Score!

BTW: if you have a honey, call/kiss them tonight at the actual minuite of new years ness. It's an old tradition demonstrating you'd like to be with them this time next year. For the commitment shy, it's not a contract, just something you absolutley must do if you're seeing each other at all and not being a twerp. Just fyi, for those among you who might not know that tradition. (/lecturing)
