I'm not making it up to Pride- I could, but I'm so fucking tired. I've just gotten back from Missouri, and before that Danny's, and before that Missouri again, all interspaced by Quad Cities Power Trips- I think I'll just chill for a while. I'll be sorry to miss the fun, but hey, there's always next year.

Yeah, the idea that someone made this amused me too.

The Women's Resource and Action Center asked me to Chair the committee organizing the charity benefit tea raising money for domestic abuse shelters. And by Chair, I mean there isn't a committee yet, I have to select some volunteers and send them forth to do my bidding like death monkeys in Wizard of Oz. This in my first week of volunteering there. I'm proud and excited, but also amused and confused- why the fuck ME? This is an important event! Don't they know I'm but a little engine? Oh well. Have been running around pricing foodstuffs, planning vegan-friendly menus, planning the text of the invitation, asking Artifacts (Annie, Colin and I's Official Favorite Store- or in Colin's case Official Favourite Store) to lend us tea services for the evening in question, meeting with Ly, the head of the center, about our budget and fundraising and crap. I feel very capable of making the event a success. There was no good reason why I haven't donated time to WRAC before- I like the ladies, they like the ladies, do you SEE the CONNECTIONS?! So inspired by guilt, there I went for volunteer training, and lo, MADNESS.

I hear back today about whether I have the Pastry Chef position at New Pioneer Co-Op. I think the interview went well. Pins. Needles. Me on them. As the hours pass I get less and less hopeful. It's a damn shame. I really, really wanted that job.

I'm reading A Doll's House in preparation for the auditions in fall. Ibsen is my secret agent lover man (MINE, not Weetzie-Bat's), and I would have a MILLION of his younglings. I want to be Nora so bad I can taste it, and it tastes of gravy! It's delicious! I'm reading, I think, a monologue from Lady Windmere's fan, b/c hey, similar time period, similar themes, eh, eh? A Doll's House is what Windmere's Fan would be if it wasn't so busy sucking. Out of everything Wilde, I may dislike Fan the most. But fuck Fan. A Doll's House is a-MAN-zing.

Oh, finished House of Leaves, but received this in my email:

* translated by Fabricio Almani, phrase appears to be a rough
translation
into Italian of the common Nursery rhyme
"Polly, put the kettle on
Polly, put the kettle on
Polly, put the kettle on
we'll all have tea

Sukey, take it off again
Sukey, take it off again
Sukey, take it off again
They've all gone away.
**another nursery rhyme. less common due to it's nature
***translation thanks to Professor Kevin Allant, University of Southern
California. "all is flux, nothing stays still. From both Heraclitus'
Diogenes Laertius, bk IX sec. 8 and Plato, Cratylus 402A

An unexpected master-stroke from Dana. He is the coolest person ever to live for this. Like, Alexander the Great? Danny's cooler. And gayer.

Kudos to Hause of Leaves for randomly referencing Franchesca Lia Bloc's Wheetzie Bat series and Ehrich Fromm, mein favorite philo-dumpling.
