I'm getting really bored with FFN. Sure, we get a ton of very appreciative reviews, but very few of those are thoughtful. I mean, a good review is a good review, but whenever I review someone's work I always take time to point out the best facets of them as a writer, to really point out if they have great characterization or sparkling, conversational diction. Roughly 30 'I liked this fic!' notes is very nice, but very... not as rewarding/as much of a growth experience as I'd thought it might be.

And then there's the two reviews I don't like that I had to write responses to. And it's not a grudging, respectful 'this was good constructive criticism' don't like, it's a 'vague bitchiness from people who can't spell well' don't like. I guess I'm too rude to them. I just get frustrated- these are people so obviously dim I would NEVER speak to them in daily life. You can tell by their poor grasp of sentence structure that they're nt quite on the level you typically associate with. Yet here they are on an artificially generated platform of electronic equality, speaking to you as imperiously as if they didn't obviously have no idea in hell what they were talking about. It seems like an ego trip for them- face to face, they'd never be so brave.

Their are really good fic ljs out there for most other fandoms, or good fic sites. This fandom and pairing are so small and so overrun with morons (more the fandom in general than this pairing) that it has nothing of the sort. You can't slink away to present fic only to people with the appropriate reading level to understand it- if you want it read at all, you have to troop over to ffn and feed it to the unwashed masses. Meaning that inevitably sad losers will say stupid shit, and being hypersensitive to criticism and having too little sympathy for stupid people in my soul, I'll get defensive, and since the best defense is a good offense I'll rip dumb asses to shreds who really don't deserve that level of rancor.

Maybe we should stick to writing fics for better developed fandoms? I'd forgotten than there's a lot of politics to this.

Interesting grammatical construction.

.. what fandom are we discussing here?

I loved ffn when I first got into hpff, roughly in 98 or so. It was such a versatile site. Now I've outgrown it and I find it insensitive.

However, it is really hard to read a fic and comment on it, especially if you are in a reading spell. Because if you read it, you want to express your apprecitation. However, you may not appreciate it that much that you want to go through a long comment. Ah.. life is so difficult.

psht. shaddap...

it' a tiny, obscure cartoon fandom- I assure you, you haven't heard of it.

Exactly, but right now I want an H/D fic badly! Post-movie angsting, I guess. Where do you suggest I go for good slash for that fandom? Ficton Alley's just so poorly organized!

Exactly- I'm a terrible R&Rer, always neglecting that second R in favor of more of the first. But when I DO write a review, I make sure it's thorough and specific! Surely you owe the person that!

When I do write reviews, they are thorough as well. When. That's also when I read fanfic.

..... good slash? Hmm. Depends on what kind of H/D -- I know some good H/D sites. Realize, at the moment it is 7 am and I just realized that I don't have to go to school. Ahh. So give me several hours and I will come up with something.
