"Left Hand of Darkness" rocks! Ursula K. LeGuin is a very talented writer, even though I've only read Book One of the Earthsea series and "Left Hand of Darkness".

I recommend Vonda McIntyre as well. The librarian who pointed me to LeGuin also likes her, as do I.
