*EDIT*

OH GOD I'M SO BORED IN RUSSIAN LIT, AIM ME PLZ, THIS CLASS IS SIX TO NIIIINE */EDIT*

Listening to Jay-Z's Black Album and reading Dostoevsky's The Grand Inquisitor. I feel pimp. Also this outfit wins. It's a good day.

Also, regardless of Kanye West's indisputable dickdom, he is a fine artist. I could wax on forever as to why, but I'll spare you.

Also Also Wik: MIA is an interesting rapper who not enough Americans are aware of. Timbaland DNE the entirety of awesome, y'all, though he DOES rock.

Unintentional Comedy in Brother's Karamazov: not actually on Jesus and polyamory: "Thou didst crave for free love and not the base raptures of the slave before the might that has overawed him forever."

The whole bit where she chose her rap name b/c her father "was a founding member of The Eelam Revolutionary Organisation of Students (EROS), a militant Tamil group," so like, a general in a Sri Lankan freedom fighter army, earns her like 50 awesome points with me.

so i just took this nationally administered survey on the college experience. check out this agree/disagree question.

"Had serious conversations with students of a different race or ethnicity than your own"

"serious conversations"? no, actually, i don't make harold and kumar jokes at asian students, and yes, i think the bill to prohibit "illegal immigrants" from pursuing higher education was made by a total fucking idiot who is more than likely related to david duke? WHAT IS A QUESTION LIKE THAT DOING ON A NATIONAL SURVEY???? I THOUGHT THESE ISSUES WERE MORE OR LESS RESOLVED ACROSS THE COUNTRY???? YOU MEAN I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO HAD THIS PROBLEM?????????? I HAD HOPED THAT I WAS!!!!

*gasps for air*

Hahahahahahaha. God, it's so sad!

So speaking of race and ethnicity, I was just at the most fucking amazing lecture on constituting a subaltern politics of the untouchables as a class. It was simply amazing. She pulled out Marx in the BEST way re: making these seemingly non-political categories political? Politicizing the embodied state in the shifting terrain of how its hard to constitute a class politics/mobilize based on the negative quality of being underprivileged when the very goal of your politics is usually to attain that privilege/abnegate yourself as a class? I dunno if I can even explain how great it was, but Anupama Rao, the lecturer, is SO on my reading list now.
