First: Science Fiction class. Big lecture on second wave, which is interesting, but then came the annoying.

Latham- if we were talking about racial prejudice rather than second wave feminism, you wouldn't have to qualify what you're saying with "Now, I don't believe this, now this is just a theory,"

Dworkin got mentioned, and whenever she comes to the party, you just know how excited I get.

Giant battle via email with my mom about money. Annoying.

It's interesting that almost all B/V fannon narratives run the standard line of Pride and Prejudice, using the more ridiculous elements of the pairing's natural habitat to write the problems as large as they can possibly go. Why is this the impulse?

In the new P&P a certain wavering element in Knightly's performance suggests that Elizabeth's refusal of Mr. Collins is delicate, that Elizabeth's resolve could be broken, and she could indeed be pressured into this marriage. An interesting fold in the story, and a mark of great acting on Knightly's part.

As to Jane's remark, "I know her to be incapable of wilfully decieving anyone," I can think of no one for whom that's true. Were women so thoroughly differently socialized by Georgian mores that Jane COULD think of anyone, anyone at all, for whom this could be true?

I love getting Judi Dench'd in this movie. I bet she does this all the time, like emma Thompson's towling off after a shower, looking in the mirror, and Judi peeps out from behind the shower curtain and goes "Meeeee!" and scares the shit out of Emma? But then Emma's all "Judi, Jesus, fifth time this week!"
