Yeah, the general belief is sort of ‘oh well if you’re published that’s it for you, it’s all roses, you’re in the money!’ and that’s very much not the case career-wise. There are certainly reasons to publish if one wants to, but it’s not a black and white question, and Being Published is not a categorically different thing from not being.
