1. It actually took me until "Saturday/Sunday" to realize that by "flat people" you probably meant "people with whom I might share a flat" rather than "people who are literally two dimensional." I think my blood sugar is low. Or maybe this is just the way I am, and I should learn to accept it.

2. *pats* Hang in there, doll.

good luck with thursday's exciting line up - particularly the phone part: something else to bear in mind, it may be difficult to set up a contract deal without a british debit/credit card, but if that is the case give me a ring and i can give you the details of my card, and we can transfer it later, because getting a phone is of paramount importance.

quiche sounds excellent, but please dont feel like you need to cook for me - especially if you feel you need to do it so that i dont destroy anything else.

crumpets on the side by the kettle, the bread may be a bit dubious, but there's some frozen bread in the freezer for toast. please don't stress about the panic attack, i dont mind being woken up - i just dont want you to be sad. x

Good luck with everything! I've been there. It's ridiculously stressful, but you'll get through it. Fingers crossed it all goes as smoothly as possible!

btw - inspired by this post, i must ask did you bring doctor horrible? i suspect you didn't, but thought i'd ask anyway (you had read atropos).

It's being mailed to me with the books--it's in the top priority shipping box. I just didn't want to shove it in with the boots and such and have it take up a lot of room/the case get messed up?

i love it - it's proof that a comedy wall makes everything 50% funnier. i guess you haven't seen that episode though. feeling better?

Thus far, the plan is to get an English masters and then doctorate, as they do over here rather than our normal double-barreled programs, and begin some lecturing--then take advantage of that tuition discount to acquire (via the slower part-time program) a history phd whilst working, so I can do more interesting cross-disciplinary work, as I'm very interest in context and conditions of production. Additionally it might well make me more interesting/valuable to a faculty. And writer friends of mine do kvetch that academic work leaves no time for creative writing, but I think that's just not quite true--look how many writers have also been academics?

Just woke up. AGAIN. God I have to get this bioclock reset. Am going to have a muffin and finish my cell chart.

It's line land! No one reads that book anymore...

Thanks.

Back on the spreadsheet, but yet again, it may, infuriatingly, be tomorrow, if places close at five rather than like 8.

Well does Anna mind bacon in a dish? That changes whether or not I'll use any. And tragically my pie crust is kinda mediocre, so I may be so lame as to buy some.

Having a crumpet EVEN NOW.

you could totally get to the shop (which closes at 6, i would guess) if you left... in the next hour.

and anna would probably eat bacon in a quiche, assuming she'd eat a quiche at all. maybe she would, but it's a tricky one to call. i'd certainly eat it, and she can eat macaroni if quiche is not her bag.

[identity profile] x-los.livejournal.com 2010-01-14 04:01 pm (UTC)(link)
well, but I still have to spreadsheet? we'll see.

That is a lot of very exciting ambitions.

And yes, it is possible to be an academic and a fiction writer. Not always - there are times on the tenure clock when one really can't write anything but those zillions of articles that one needs in order to avoid being fired - but for most of your career academia doesn't have to own your life any more than you let it.

Let me know if you want any help with grad school applications.
